State of Chatham Focuses on Area Trends

On October 15th, the Chatham Chamber of Commerce hosted The State of Chatham, an annual event for chamber members, business leaders and the Chatham County community. MOSAIC’s 79°West Innovation Hub and CE Group were event sponsors.

Aaron Nelson, President & CEO of The Chamber for a Greater Chapel Hill-Carrboro, presented an update on the region’s progress. Comparing Chatham County to its surrounding counties, Nelson covered trends in population and demographics, domestic migration, housing, poverty, education, commuting, environment and health.

Chatham Chamber President & CEO Tyler Bryant hosted a discussion with Jay Walden and United Way of Chatham’s Executive Director Katie Childs.  

Childs spoke of United Way’s BOLD Goal to end and prevent poverty for 2,000 people in 2,000 days (2030). Her team is conducting a Bold Goal Pilot Program at Siler City Elementary School. She also encouraged attendees to participate in the Chatham Housing Collective, which hosts a monthly conversation about housing with a diverse group of stakeholders.
