Leaders from across Chatham County gathered for the Chatham Chamber of Development’s 2026 Chatham Development Briefing on March 24, 2026, offering a comprehensive look at the partnerships, infrastructure and investments shaping the region’s future.
As Chatham County experiences a rate of growth nearly double the state average, speakers emphasized staying proactive and community-focused. A consistent theme was collaboration between public and private sectors to invest in industry, utilities and workforce development.

Speakers reinforced that sustained growth is anchored in thoughtful planning, strong partnerships and active community involvement.
“We’ve shifted perception from a rural, pass-through community to a competitive economic hub… That’s a strong position to be in, and we’re going to keep building on it,” says Smith.
From major industrial recruitment to expanding education and infrastructure systems, the region continues to position itself as an attractive destination for both major employers and prospective residents.
